Thank you for your interest in a Veterans-centric experience. We are in the process of forming a group of military and associated groups trip to allow us to share our experiences, build more friendships, and recognize those who served our country with pride and honor.
Why am I doing this? I am a Navy vet and was on a cruise recently where there were about 20 veterans from many different branches and eras. We introduced ourselves and told a few stories - stories that included a Navy supply officer that was responsible for fuel shipments to ships during Vietnam; an Army special forces who parachuted into enemy positions in Vietnam; a couple who between them had 69 years of services with the wife being the first woman 2-star general (eventually pinning on a 3rd star) in the Marines; a Donut Dolly from the Red Cross who served in Vietnam and worked with countless grunts (her word) and probably saved hundreds with her service; a Navy Flight and Intelligence officer who served during the wars in Iraq; several Navy officers who served on and commanded submarines during the Cold War and Iraq wars. We heard from the wives of these soldiers and sailors and the sacrifice they made to support the war fighter and keep things going at home and we heard stories from a daughter of a WW2 Raider who was “killed” in battle, awarded a posthumous Purple Heart only to call his mom from the hospital as he recovered giving her the surprise of her life. These stories told of the heroism of those who served and they hit home - hard. There was silence and, after a few light-hearted stories, there were laughs.
