Welcome to the Panama Canal and Costa Rica with Windstar Cruises!

Let's Set Sail with the Official Cruise Line of the James Beard Foundation

THE RAINFOREST, SEA, AND BEACHES here brim with life — howler monkeys, jaguars, blue morpho butterflies the size of dinner plates — bisected by a canal built on a scale never before attempted by man. Mayan and colonial relics hint at past glories, shrouded in jungle and hidden deep within Belize’s limestone caves. Latin cuisines burst on the palate with the exuberance of a mariachi band. Meet Embera Indians in Panama and search the Costa Rican rainforest for endangered species. You are an explorer by day, with cocktails on the pool deck at 5.

A cruise isn’t just about the land. It’s about the sea. That warm, turquoise water is more than willing to answer your question about what to do today, and the phenomenal Watersports Platform on the stern of your Windstar yacht is more than willing to provide the means — no beach required. It’s just one more way the yachts get you closer to your destination. In fact on this itinerary we will have THREE DAYS to play with the water toys! Zodiacs, paddle boards, kayaks, a trampoline... so much fun in the Costa Rican sun.

COMPLIMENTARY WATERSPORTS EQUIPMENT AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

  • Snorkeling gear (a personal custom-fit set for your use throughout your cruise in select Caribbean and Central America destinations)
  • Stand-up paddleboards
  • Kayaks
  • Foam flotation magic carpet
  • Water trampoline
  • Sailboat

Your cruise fare includes all beverages including alcohol, WiFi, pre-paid gratuities, 24-hour room service and $200 per person shipboard credit!  You can use this money for excursions, souvenirs in the shop on board... whatever you'd like.  Of course all meals are included at any restaurant on board - including many plant based options at every meal to keep the healthiest of eaters happy!

We have sailed with Windstar and can tell you that it is an exceptional experience.  Every morning you'll find fresh smoothies and detox juices, for example.

One of my favorite meals onboard started with a watermelon, goat cheese, arugula salad with prosciutto and a balsamic glaze.  Simply delicious!

If you've never sailed on a small ship, you'll be changed forever! And the food on Windstar is truly the best I've ever eaten at sea. They are the Official Cruise Line of the James Beard Foundation for good reasons! The suites on the ship are lovely, the service impeccable, and the fun to be had on the Watersports Platform is like being on your own private yacht.  We will even have a Costa Rican Naturalist on board to teach us more about the area's flora and fauna. There is an option to add a few days on land to see even more of Costa Rica after leaving the yacht, exploring Montevedre, Arenal, and more. Let us know if you're interested in more information on the post-cruise package.

The rates that we can offer for this sailing are THE BEST you will find anywhere and the cabins are selling out.  You don't want to miss this opportunity!

If you click on the "Cruise Information" tab, you'll see a sample of three available categories as well as the detailed itinerary and details about the Star Seeker.  Share this link with a friend that you'd like to join you, and let's get booked before it sells out!  We also have special rates for solo travelers; please inquire for pricing.

Colon (Day 1)

Colon is a seaport on the Atlantic side of the Isthmus of Panama and gives access to Panama City. Colon is on Manzanillo Island, between Manzanillo Bay and Limn Bay. It is the northern terminus of the Panama Railroad and the Panama Canal. It was founded in 1850 by the builders of the Panama Railroad.

Panama Canal Daylight Transit, Panama (Day 2)

Balboa (Days 2, 3)

Isla Parida, Panama (Day 5)

Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica (Day 6)

Puerto Quepos (Day 7)

Microclimates characterize Costa Rica, but in a nation of verdant rain forest, the region around Quepos, on Coronado Bay is one of the richest and most bio-diverse places on earth. Its unspoiled natural beauty has secretly drawn visitors for decades and a cottage tourism industry has arisen to accommodate city-dwellers seeking a glimpse of the planet's vanishing wilds.
Attractions & Activities
Try to visit the Mangroves, rainforest and Manuel Antonio National Park where you can see howler monkeys, two and three toed sloths, crocodiles and iguanas.

Puerto Caldera (Day 8)

This port of call is the door to the inner beauty of Costa Rica, a country waiting to be discovered. There are volcano tours that pass through strawberry plantations and along the coast with inviting beaches trailing off into the distance. San Jose is a short trip inland and the center for nightlife and all of your delightful excursions.
